How it all started
Starting point
The idea for Protokey came up during our civilian service at the Red Cross in Innsbruck in 2024. We quickly noticed how time-consuming writing protocols after missions can be. When many calls happen back-to-back, there is often hardly any time to write everything calmly – and you are tied up longer than necessary.
The first prototype
From this idea, Protokey I was born: a protocol stick that writes text in seconds and allows custom templates. The first product was gladly used by many colleagues and was very well received overall.
Further development
After about a year and lots of feedback, it became clear that we could do even better. Protokey I was functional, but still quite cumbersome to use because creating and managing protocols had to happen via a website.
With Protokey II we tackled exactly that. Thanks to a dedicated app, managing templates is now much easier, safer, and faster. Protokey II is not a complete reinvention, but an evolution based on feedback, critique, and real-world use.
We met in December 2023 during our civilian service at the Red Cross in Innsbruck. Even after that, we continue working together in emergency services and respond to calls regularly. We keep developing Protokey straight from everyday practice – hands-on and focused on what truly helps in operation.
Matteo
Matteo studies computer science and takes care of the website, customer support, and sales. He is the first point of contact for questions, keeps content up to date, and makes sure Protokey remains easy to access for users.
Linus
Linus studies architecture and is responsible for the design of the Protokey housing as well as the technical implementation. He develops the firmware, maintains the app, and ensures Protokey is reliable and user-friendly in everyday use.
